Absolute Poker $100,000 Guaranteed
By winning the PokerSourceOnline Poker League, one of the prizes was a buyin to the $100 K Guaranteed Tournament on Absolute Poker. This Tournament starts at 4:30 my time on Absolute. This tournament is a $200 +$16 Buy in, and features 5,000 in starting stacks. It pays $25,000 to win, and when I checked last week there was 504 players. The biggest buyin I've ever played in a multi table tournament was $20, so I expect the competition to be really tough in this one. My goal is to finish in the money, I think that the top 54 pays, and the minimum payout is about $350. I'm not sure what strategy changes I'll need with the 5,000 starting stacks. I figure that this means many less pushes early, and it'll take a stack of 40,000 to get into the money as the average stack will be 50,000 when the money bubble breaks. So I only need to double 3 times or so to money (5,000 X 2) = (10,000 X 2) = (20,0000 X 2) = 40,000. So I figure no coinflips early or for the first hour and a half. I will probably post on PSO and Bet the Pot on how to play with the larger starting stacks as I've never played in one before.
I also don't know for sure when I'm going to play. I sent a message to DLK9s at PSO, and he said to give them plenty of notice. This Saturday is the Ohio State / Michigan Football game (GO BUCK's) and I know that I probably won't be in too good of shape to play poker on this day (or maybe better, I guess) The next weekend is Thanksgiving weekend, so it probably will be in December.
I also played last week in the Absolute Poker Forum Challenge last Thursday Night. It's a $1 Buy In, but the top prize is a buyin to this $100,000 tournament. I finished 5th (there were only 40 players) and made a wopping $2.67. But I was good enough that I could have won, I took 2 horrible beats at the final table or I would have easily been chip leader by far with 5 players left. Oh well, it was fun and I think that I will try to play this tournament every Thursday night for a while. Effectively its a $216 overlay on a $40 Tournamnet. Not too bad, a 500% Overlay.
